Khadi is gearing up for 2020 with initiatives from Khadi & Village Industries Commission and our team founders Diksha Dixit and Abhishek Sharma had the splendid opportunity to be a part of their 1-day awareness event here in the city of Bhopal to promote khadi through Khadi Marka.
This wonderful sustainable traditional fabric(khadi) is the key to the clean and green fashion industry and major steps are being taken to make sure that only genuine khadi reaches every customer.
This event was organised especially for college students who are studying fashion to ensure that they know what khadi is, how it’s different from handloom, what its special properties and health benefit are, in order to boost the consumer as well as the artisans. They were also informed of the various schemes and the process to apply under KVIC’s flagship P.M.E.G.P.(Prime Minister`s Employment Generation Scheme) and S.F.U.R.T.I.(Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries).
A lot of khadi producing NGO’s were also present and offered the students a chance to visit their production facilities and learn first-hand how the cloth is made. Director Sir, Shri Sandeep Meena also offered the students a chance to intern at the khadi bha where they would be taught the different varieties of khadi and the technicalities involved in producing it.
Students were also encouraged to bring new designs into khadi both in terms of prints as well as products to ensure that the younger generation can also enjoy the benefits of wearing khadi.
This was a one of a kind event where stakeholders from khadi fraternity were present including rural artisans, production NGO representatives, entrepreneurs working in khadi space, K.V.I.C central zone office representatives, representatives from KVIC head office(Irla, Mumbai) and cabinet ministry of Government of Madhya Pradesh.
Shri Rana sir who hosted the event and played the role of the anchor with great aplomb, ensuring active participation from the attendees.
